Cartier, a once-happy pup, lived a peaceful life full of naps, playdates, and love from her family. She cherished her routine and the bond she shared with her favorite people, never imagining it could all be taken away.

One day, her world was turned upside down. Her family, feeling they no longer had the time or energy for her, surrendered Cartier to a New York City shelter. Confused and heartbroken, she couldn’t understand what she had done wrong. But the truth was, it wasn’t her fault.

A New Chapter of Hope

Before surrendering her, Cartier’s former family confined her to a crate, isolating her from love and movement. This only deepened her anxiety. Fortunately, Rebound Hounds, a New York City rescue organization, stepped in to help. They placed Cartier in a caring foster home with Katy and Collin Brink, a couple who deeply understood her struggles.

Katy, who also navigates anxiety, empathized with Cartier’s journey. She and her husband worked tirelessly to provide the patience and care Cartier needed. However, because the couple already had two dogs, their home couldn’t offer Cartier the quiet, calm environment she required.

For over a year, Cartier has been waiting for a loving home. According to Katy, Cartier would thrive in a peaceful household with someone who can share routines and take walks with her. She doesn’t suffer from separation anxiety and is a low-maintenance companion, but she would benefit greatly from being the only dog in the home, allowing her to relax and roam freely.

“She’s an easygoing grown-up dog at home, who just likes to chill with her people,” Katy shared.

Though Cartier struggles with anxiety in new situations, she’s been working hard to overcome it. She remains gentle, calm, and eager to connect with her humans.

More Than Her Anxiety

Cartier is not defined by her challenges. She is intelligent, funny, and empathetic. She loves getting the zoomies in the kitchen, playing with her toys on her back, and snuggling with her humans. Being a couch potato is her specialty, and her personality is sure to bring joy to anyone lucky enough to adopt her.

As Katy expressed, “The dogs who nobody wants are the dogs who create the most joy.”
