A full year has gone by since a beloved cat’s owner passed away, yet the devoted feline refuses to leave her late owner’s gravesite.
Keli Keningau Prayitno, a 28-year-old from Central Java, Indonesia, first encountered the cat’s sorrowful cries and attempted to adopt her. Despite Keli’s efforts, the cat returned to the grave the following day.
She only leaves to visit her owner’s children where she receives food, yet she consistently returns to the grave to sleep each night, touched by those who pass by offering food and water.

“She sleeps there and meows,” Keli shared with The Mirror, observing that “it’s very sad to see. It shows just how close animals are to their owners.”
Though cats often appear independent, animal experts affirm that they can indeed mourn the loss of their human companions.
Grieving cats may exhibit signs of anxiety, become disinterested in their surroundings, and behave uncharacteristically. In extreme cases, experts recommend consulting a veterinarian to discuss potential anti-anxiety treatments for the grieving pet.
