Two construction workers in Texas were recently surprised by an unexpected discovery on their job site. As they carried out their tasks, they heard what sounded like a tiny dog crying.

Initially puzzled by the direction of the noise, they soon realized it was coming from above. To their amazement, they saw a hawk carrying a Chihuahua puppy.

Just as they comprehended the situation, the hawk released its grip on the little dog, causing the puppy to fall to the ground.

The workers quickly rushed over to the puppy, scooped him up, and took him to the nearest veterinary clinic, hoping for the best.

Since the puppy didn’t have a microchip to identify him and no owner came forward, he ended up at Austin Animal Center (AAC).

Upon his arrival at the shelter, the little Chihuahua’s incredible story became an instant sensation. Staff affectionately named him “Miracle Puppy,” awed by his survival from such a great height.

At only six weeks old, he was quickly taken under the wing of his new companions at the shelter.

“When he first arrived, all he wanted was to be held,” recalled Jennifer Olohan, AAC’s communications manager, speaking with The Dodo.

Even while connected to an IV for fluids, the puppy would try to greet visitors at the front of his kennel. “He’s a real sweetheart,” she added.

The staff also endearingly nicknamed him Tony Hawk, in reference to his unusual adventure. Despite the potentially severe fall, Tony’s injuries were surprisingly minimal.

“He only had a few scratches on his head and chest,” Olohan mentioned. “It’s nothing short of a miracle that there were no broken bones or internal injuries.”

Tony’s origins remain a mystery, with no clues as to whether he was a stray or came from someone’s home. Regardless, the shelter staff are grateful that he came into their care and delighted in his steady recovery.

Tony is currently staying with a foster family until he’s old enough for neutering, after which the shelter will begin seeking a forever home for him.

“Currently, his foster family has received numerous adoption applications, and there are some excellent candidates,” Olohan noted.
