Abandoned dogs are unfortunately a common sight on city streets, often left to survive on their own without the support they need. Young puppies are particularly vulnerable, struggling to navigate the harsh realities outside without human care.
This was precisely the situation for a group of puppies who needed urgent help. Luckily, compassionate helpers found them just in time.
According to PEOPLE, on July 14, 2024, officers from the Garden City Police Department in Kansas discovered 13 puppies abandoned by the roadside near 9th and Maple Streets around 9:30 a.m. They quickly took to their official Facebook page to share the news and reach out to the community for any information on the puppies’ origins.
The police department’s post, titled “PUPPY LOVE,” described the puppies as a sweet litter of thirteen. The officers affectionately called them their junior “paw-tners” and ensured they were showered with affection before relocating them to an animal shelter.
The rescue’s timing was critical because the puppies were exposed to soaring temperatures that reached 97 degrees, according to AccuWeather. This swift intervention likely spared their lives.
An email statement to PEOPLE from the police noted that despite being hot when found, the puppies were in good health and extremely sweet. Weighing between 6 to 8 pounds each, they were given extra care and attention by the officers before being handed over to the Finney County Humane Society, also based in Garden City.
Meanwhile, the officers were also working diligently to determine if the puppies had been abandoned, with the Humane Society supporting their efforts by posting photos and descriptions of each puppy on their Facebook page.
Thanks to dedicated professionals and kindhearted community members, there is hope that these puppies will eventually find their perfect homes. The police ended their hopeful message by writing, “Fingers crossed they are reunited with their family(s) soon!”
