As the evening unfolded, Carla Stowe was looking forward to a relaxing night at home. However, life had a different plan for her.

Carla noticed her dogs behaving unusually; they were agitated and seemed intent on directing her attention to the yard. Their persistent actions suggested they were eager to communicate something important.

Unable to ignore their distress, Carla followed her dogs outside, hoping to uncover what was causing such a reaction. The sight that awaited her in the dimly lit yard was completely unexpected.

In the glow of her flashlight, Carla discovered a mysterious yellow crate—the kind she didn’t own—and it became apparent that someone had left it there deliberately. As the president of Baby Gunn’s Animal Rescue in Paris, Texas, Carla felt this might be a job for her organization, and she dreaded what she might find inside.

Noises and thumping emanated from the crate, but its contents remained a mystery. With a swift flash of her light, Carla peered through the duct tape securing the crate and was met by a pair of despondent eyes staring back at her.

Carla quickly removed the tape and zip ties that held the crate shut, and the dog eagerly emerged. It wasn’t just that someone had left a dog in her yard that startled Carla. The true shock was the cruel manner in which the dog had been abandoned—locked inside a crate, secured with ziplocks and duct tape.

This reality begged the question: how could anyone treat another living creature this way?

The abandoned pup was fortunate to find refuge in Carla’s yard. Who knows what fate might have awaited him in a less hospitable environment? The dog, a stunning black and white Pitbull, was named RD and was swiftly taken to Baby Gunn’s animal shelter.

At the shelter, RD gradually began to adapt to his new surroundings. With time, Carla is confident the shelter will find him a loving family who cherishes dogs, regardless of their breed.

Statistics from the World Animal Foundation reveal that Pitbulls are among the most at-risk breeds, and according to PETA, they are also the most abused dogs globally. Alarmingly, 25% of Americans reportedly dislike Pitbulls.

These facts are indeed disheartening and call for hope that situations like RD’s become stories of the past.
