Some stories begin with hardship but lead to a life filled with hope, and Lucky’s tale is a perfect example.
This resilient dog was found abandoned and helpless on train tracks in Montgomery County, Philadelphia, clinging to life amidst overwhelming odds. Injured and unable to use his back legs, Lucky spent two harrowing days avoiding passing trains until his plight was noticed by some kind souls who quickly sought help.
When police officers and rescue volunteers arrived on the scene, they were met with a heartbreaking sight. Despite his pain and fear, Lucky’s eyes silently pleaded for someone to save him. The team approached with care, offering food and comfort, letting him know he was no longer alone.
Philly Rescue Angels INC took him into their care and brought him to an emergency clinic, where the extent of his injuries was uncovered. Lucky suffered from serious scrapes and broken teeth, and X-rays revealed a severe spinal cord injury, likely caused by a train. The outlook was grim, with veterinarians doubtful he would walk again.
Despite this discouraging prognosis, rescuer Sidara Son was determined not to give up. While others considered euthanasia, Sidara believed Lucky should have a fighting chance. Following a six-hour spinal surgery, Lucky’s journey of recovery began.
With the help of a special harness and a wheeled cart, Lucky adjusted to his new circumstances. Even during difficult treatments, he showered his caregivers with affection, showing his resilient spirit. As his story spread online, supportive messages flooded in from well-wishers eager to help.
Understanding that Lucky required ongoing care, the rescue team found him a temporary home with Kimberly Price Astringer, director of Tiny Paws Rescue. There, he received not only medical attention but also abundant love and comfort. Sidara continued to play a crucial role, accompanying him to appointments and supporting him through every step of his rehabilitation.
As time went on, Lucky’s physical strength improved, and he began to stand with assistance, wag his tail, and enjoy playful moments with toys and his cart. However, his emotional scars lingered. Haunted by past trauma, he battled anxiety and fear, longing for a forever home that would provide stability and love.
In January 2023, an update from his rescue revealed that Lucky, despite his progress, was still awaiting adoption. It was then that Sidara, who had been there since his rescue, decided to officially bring Lucky into her family. She shared on Facebook, “Lucky completely flourished in my home! He was instantly comfortable in his new home, with his new pack. The anxiety, separation anxiety, fears, even fear of car rides, that had consumed him, faded away, once with me.”
Now, surrounded by Sidara and his new family, Lucky experiences the joy and security he deserves. His story is a powerful reminder of resilience, hope, and the transformative power of love.
