On the side of a busy road, a small brown puppy tried to stay hidden in a drain pipe, longing for someone to rescue her from the harsh street life.
The puppy, later named Charlie, sat quietly, hoping a passerby might notice her. Most cars whizzed past without stopping, leaving Charlie sad and alone.
Unexpectedly, help was not far away.
Aubrey V. Lynn’s day took an unexpected turn after she said goodbye to her partner, who headed out to the gym.
While she worked from home, her partner caught a glimpse of a tiny puppy face peeking out from a drain pipe. Instantly connected, he couldn’t abandon the vulnerable little dog.
“He kept driving past but knew he couldn’t just leave her, so he turned around and sent me a message,” Aubrey recounted.
The couple realized they needed to help the puppy, but there was a problem. The drain was dangerously close to heavy traffic, and they worried the skittish pup might run into the road.
“We both felt really anxious because sometimes she would come out of the hole, but she wouldn’t let us get close enough to catch her,” Aubrey explained.
Determined to rescue Charlie, they came up with a plan. Hoping to tempt her out, they bought some tempting dog food from a local pet store.
Even after 24 hours, Charlie remained hidden, seemingly too scared to emerge.
Just when they were about to leave, Charlie unexpectedly approached them. Aubrey quickly picked her up, and to her surprise, Charlie immediately relaxed, sensing she was finally safe.
“She calmed immediately and didn’t try to get away,” Aubrey shared.
With Charlie secure, Aubrey and her partner brought her home. Although adopting a dog wasn’t in their original plans, they quickly changed their minds after meeting Charlie. Before long, she became an irreplaceable part of their family.
“We never talked about it while trying to rescue her, but I think both of us knew in that moment she was part of our family now,” Aubrey confessed.
Charlie settled into her new home with ease. Though initially timid, she quickly warmed up, grateful for the love and care she had been missing.
“[Charlie] adapted really well. She was timid at first but warmed up so quickly. You could tell she just wanted to be loved—it was really sweet,” Aubrey added.
Now, as Aubrey and her partner watch Charlie happily play in their backyard, they are delighted with how much joy she brings to their lives.
