When Perkins first encountered Beaker, the dog was frightened and hiding behind a garage. However, as Perkins called to him, Beaker’s hesitancy began to fade. His tail started to wag, and he leaned in for some affection, showing visible signs of relief. In his excitement, Beaker let out a sound reminiscent of a Muppet character, earning him his name.
Beaker’s initial nervousness was understandable. He had been left tied up and abandoned, but realizing Perkins’ intention to help, he completely unwound and snuggled up to his new friend. “Once the chain was detached from the garage, he immediately rolled over, eager for belly rubs and kisses,” Perkins recalled.
Unfortunately, the chain was still secured around Beaker’s neck. Perkins took him to the vet for an examination and surgery to safely remove it. During the wait for the procedure, Perkins made sure to shower Beaker with the affection he had been missing, which Beaker gratefully accepted. They spent over five hours bonding in the car, with Beaker eventually napping with his head resting on Perkins’ lap.
Despite the hardships he faced, Beaker’s main desire was for love and companionship, and he was finally receiving it. He is now recuperating in a foster home, where he is described as immensely joyful and loved by everyone who meets him. For Beaker, the past no longer matters. What counts is the loving environment he is in now, surrounded by people who ensure his safety and happiness.
“He’s getting used to being an indoor dog and experiencing unconditional love in his foster home,” Perkins shared.
Beaker is on the hunt for a permanent home, preferably with another lively and energetic dog who can teach him the ropes and become his best friend. As soon as Beaker met his rescuers, he knew he was finally secure, and now he eagerly awaits the forever family he truly deserves.
