Meet Norberta, a ten-year-old Pit Bull mix with a remarkable story. This lovable pup has spent a significant part of her life in a shelter in Las Vegas, facing serious health challenges, including an eye ulcer and a torn cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) in her knee.

Such conditions often lead to unfortunate outcomes for dogs, but Norberta’s luck changed when she was taken in by Best Friends Animal Society in Utah. They worked diligently to restore her health, and she has since made the shelter her home.

Now that she’s back to being a happy and healthy dog, Norberta is ready to find her forever home. Her adventurous spirit and love for human companionship make her a delightful companion. However, despite her charm, she has yet to attract a potential adopter.

But Norberta’s team at the shelter remains determined to showcase her endearing qualities. They emphasize, “We removed her left eye due to a medical condition, but she doesn’t let it affect her happiness. We believe she looks even cuter! Norberta would thrive as the only dog in the household, compensating for it with her charming smile and playful personality,” as shared by the shelter on their website.

Sadly, Norberta’s story is not unique. Across the U.S., a stray dog is euthanized every 90 seconds due to overcrowding. Many organizations and compassionate individuals are striving to help, but the need is immense.

In response to the overwhelming number of animals needing homes, the shelter devised a brilliant plan to attract potential adopters.

Introducing Chewy Claus

Chewy, a company dedicated to the well-being of pets, launched the Chewy Claus program in 2022 to make pets’ wishes come true.

Until December 20, pets can submit letters to Chewy, listing their wishes. The company then endeavors to fulfill as many requests as possible. Furthermore, for every letter received, Chewy donates a pound of pet food to one of its nonprofit partners.

“Receiving thousands of letters from pets wishing for homes made us realize we had to act. There’s no better way to celebrate the season than by connecting pets with loving families, whether they are new pet owners or reuniting with a furry friend,” said Orlena Yeung, Chief Brand Officer at Chewy.

The wonderful aspect is that you too can make a significant impact!

Visit your local animal shelter, choose a furry companion, and change their life for the better, not just for the holidays but for a lifetime. After all, who wouldn’t want a loyal friend by their side?
