Bolo, a three-year-old pit bull mix, was supposed to spend only a single day with the Hopkinsville Police Department. However, his visit became much more as he quickly won over the hearts of the staff and secured a permanent role there.
Bolo was introduced to the department through a program called “Paw-Trol Wednesdays,” which aims to highlight shelter dogs.
His warm personality and playful nature quickly made him a favorite among the officers. His charm led to frequent questions about adopting him from the staff.
“He just fit right in and started playing with everyone,” shared Royale Marfil, the officer who launched the initiative. Many of the staff members were intrigued, asking, “Can we keep him?”
Bolo’s ability to make himself at home was clear when he curled up and snoozed peacefully in Marfil’s office—a heartwarming moment for her.
When the time came for Bolo to head back to the shelter, he showed a clear reluctance, and it was evident he had formed attachments.
With this in mind, Marfil asked if Bolo could remain with the department, a proposal that was met with enthusiastic agreement. Bolo officially became part of the team.
Bolo now spends every day at work with Marfil and goes home with her at night. His happiness over being adopted was clear during a shopping trip to PetSmart, where he eagerly selected collars and toys.
In a special ceremony, Bolo was named Hopkinsville’s honorary “Paw-trol Officer,” cementing his position as a beloved member of the office.
Marfil jokes that visitors are more interested in seeing Bolo than herself, and many bring him treats, which he enjoys immensely.
While the police department also has working dogs, Bolo’s job is simply to spread joy and offer comfort through his cheerful presence.
With his radiant smile and limitless affection, Bolo embodies unconditional love, bringing smiles and warmth to everyone he meets in his new role at the police department.
