Suzette Hall, the dedicated founder of Logan’s Legacy, is on a mission to rescue as many dogs as possible in the Los Angeles area.
In optimal situations, Hall and her team swiftly assist puppies in need shortly after receiving a call. However, rescue operations can become challenging when chaos ensues, as it did recently when someone noticed a fluffy puppy stuck in a sewer drain.
This six-month-old retriever mix had been hiding under a neighborhood for weeks, unnoticed until a compassionate animal lover discovered her and refused to leave her side. The Good Samaritan shared the puppy’s location on Facebook, prompting many dog enthusiasts to come to the scene.
“It was like a tourist attraction,” Hall shared with The Dodo, explaining how several people showed up armed with treats and leashes, although their presence inadvertently frightened the already anxious puppy further.
“She would peek out of the sewer, but the moment someone approached to help, she’d retreat farther back, at least 18 feet in,” Hall recalled. The puppy cleverly avoided capture by burrowing deeper into the sewer, beyond the reach of rescuers equipped with long rods and poles.
Recognizing the need for a more strategic approach, Hall kindly asked the crowd to disperse. She and her team then devised an innovative plan. “We knew we had to block off her escape,” Hall explained. “That was the only way to safely rescue her.”
Their patience paid off after nearly two days when the hungry puppy finally emerged from her hiding spot, allowing the team to quickly close off her retreat.
The rescue team breathed a collective sigh of relief, realizing they had successfully captured the puppy, soon to be named Cora. Hall, however, felt a pang of compassion for the pup who had found a sense of security in the sewer.
“That sewer drain was her safe haven for two weeks,” Hall explained. Nevertheless, she was confident that better days lay ahead for Cora.
Once the drain was sealed, Cora darted under a car for refuge. With the help of baby gates, the team blocked under the vehicle, allowing Hall to gently place a snare leash over Cora’s head. “When they shouted, ‘Suzette, you’ve got her,’ I couldn’t hold back the tears,” Hall confessed. “We all stood there crying tears of joy.”
After a prolonged moment of relief and happiness, Hall whisked Cora away to Camino Pet Hospital. The little pup received a clean bill of health and a much-needed bath, preparing her for her foster care journey.
Soon, Cora will meet her temporary family, but she continues to seek a permanent, loving home. As she awaits adoption, Cora expresses her gratitude to her rescuers, showering them with affection.
“She’s such a sweet girl,” Hall remarked. “And now, she’ll feel safe forever.”
