Scarlett Johansson captivated fans and media alike on Thursday at the premiere of Marriage Story during the 76th Venice Film Festival, arriving in a striking red sequined gown.
The 34-year-old actress wore a form-fitting dress by designer Celine featuring a thigh-high slit that elegantly showcased her legs as she walked the red carpet.
The role in Marriage Story holds particular significance for Johansson, as she described it as “fated” due to its timing following her divorce from Romain Dauriac in 2017.
Adorned with delicate sequins, the scarlet gown also revealed Johansson’s intricate floral back tattoo, adding a unique touch to her strapless look.
Her slicked-back hairstyle and a single silver chain earring by Ana Khouri completed her ensemble, blending elegance with a hint of edge.
During a press conference covered by Variety, Johansson spoke candidly about how she connected to her character’s journey, sharing that the role felt meaningful and timely.
Recounting her first conversation with the film’s director, she said, “I was going through a divorce. I didn’t know what we were going to talk about… I just kind of blew into the room, ordered a glass of white wine, and started complaining.
And he was just listening and very attentive. And then he kind of cut it short and said, ‘Funny you should mention it.’”
Johansson continued, “It felt sort of fated in a way… It somehow came at just the right time.”
Johansson, who shares a daughter, Rose, with Dauriac, was married to him from 2014 to 2017. Before that, she married Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2011 and is currently engaged to Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost.
