A group of tourists on a safari in Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park experienced an unforgettable moment when a cheetah took a break and hopped onto their jeep.
The remarkable encounter was captured on video, showing the predator calmly perched just inches from the stunned visitors.

The cheetah and her cub were spotted by Denice Alex Massawe, owner of Top Deck Safari in Tanzania.
He described the experience: “After hours of searching for big cats, we finally came across this cheetah and her daughter. It was an amazing experience.”

The footage, filmed in July 2021, was recently shared online, drawing widespread attention and admiration. Viewers described the close-up view of the big cat as “incredible.”
Cheetahs are known for their exceptional speed and sharp vision, making them the fastest land mammals, capable of reaching speeds up to 70 mph—over 30 mph faster than a giraffe.
However, their numbers have dramatically declined due to poaching, hunting, and the demand for exotic pets, particularly in the Middle East.

Over the past decade, around 3,600 wild cheetahs have been captured and sold as pets, contributing to their “critically endangered” status. Only about 70 cheetahs remain in parts of the Serengeti National Park.
This isn’t the first time a cheetah has stunned safari-goers in Tanzania. Last year, safari guide Serena Van Staden captured another extraordinary encounter when a cheetah climbed onto her open-top vehicle, standing just inches away.
The curious cat explored the area before using the jeep as a vantage point to survey the surroundings.

These encounters highlight the delicate balance between wildlife conservation and tourism in preserving these majestic creatures’ natural habitats.
