Concerns grew among the Milgis Trust scouts, tasked with monitoring elephant health, when they noticed the bull’s condition worsening.

Severe wounds on its right foreleg and hind leg caused noticeable lameness and swelling in the front leg.

The rescue began by sedating the elephant to examine and treat its injuries safely. Found resting in luggage, the team used Etorphine Hydrochloride to tranquilize the elephant precisely.

Despite its weakened state, the elephant offered little resistance, lying calmly on its side within six minutes, allowing the team to begin treatment.

Upon examining the elephant, veterinarians discovered deep septic wounds on its right carpal joint and the right side of its gluteal area.

The wounds were carefully cleaned with a mixture of Hydrogen Peroxide and water, followed by applying Iodine and green clay to promote healing.

The medical team also administered antibiotics, multivitamins, and corticosteroids through injections, hoping to aid the elephant’s recovery.

Despite these determined efforts, the situation took a tragic turn. Twenty-five minutes after treatment, Diprenorphine Hydrochloride was given to reverse the tranquilizer.

However, despite several attempts to help the elephant stand, it remained unable to rise. Sadly, eighteen hours later, the bull succumbed to its injuries.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the elephant’s wounds were caused by gunshot injuries, which had fractured the area above its right carpal joint.

The direct cause of death was septicemia and osteomyelitis, both resulting from the gunshot wounds.
