In an extraordinary display of teamwork, a baby elephant was saved from a 30-foot-deep well in Jharkhand, eastern India.
The calf had fallen into the well on Sunday night and was later rescued by locals who used excavators to create a makeshift corridor to enable its escape.
The footage reveals the young elephant, nearly fully submerged in the murky water, waiting patiently for help.

The rescue team used excavators to break the well’s wall and reach the waterline where the frightened calf was trapped.
As the last digger moved away, the calf could be seen climbing out of the water onto the hastily constructed muddy path.
The baby elephant then pauses to toss some soil with its trunk, seemingly celebrating its newfound freedom.
The determined calf climbs to the top despite its weak legs and slippery pathway. Once there, it runs away from its rescuers, filled with newfound energy.
The baby elephant is a member of a 22-elephant herd residing in the Sariya area of the Giridih district. Forest Department officials are now working to reunite the calf with its family.
