When Megan, a rescuer from Nashville Dog & Cat Rescue, heard about a pregnant dog wandering in a parking lot in Tennessee, she knew she had to help. The frightened dog was scavenging for food, and her vulnerable state tugged at Megan’s heart.
However, rescuing this timid mama-to-be would prove to be a challenge.

A Dog’s Fear and a Rescuer’s Determination
Every time Megan tried to approach the pregnant dog, she would back away, clearly uneasy around humans. Megan suspected that the dog, likely abused in the past, was now fiercely protective of her unborn puppies.
“She was heavily pregnant, so it was only a matter of time before she gave birth,” Megan told The Dodo. “If something were to happen to her, nobody would know where the puppies are.”
Determined to intervene before it was too late, Megan devised a careful plan.
A Clever Rescue Plan
Megan began placing food in areas where the dog frequently stayed, setting up a humane trap nearby. The idea was to catch the dog, attach a tracking device to her collar, and release her so she could lead the rescuers to her puppies.
After the dog gave birth, Megan and her team put their plan into action. Hungry and needing to sustain her puppies, the mama dog eventually walked into the trap. Megan secured the tracking device and released her, watching as the worried mother rushed back to her hiding spot.
The tracking device led Megan and her team to a shed, where they discovered the dog, now named Miranda, caring for her eight beautiful and healthy puppies.
A Happy Ending for All
The entire dog family was brought to the shelter, where they received food, water, and medical care. Despite their rough start, Miranda and her puppies were found to be in good health.
As the puppies grew, they quickly found loving forever homes. Miranda, too, was adopted into a caring family, finally experiencing the warmth and safety she deserved.
Thanks to Megan’s perseverance and the compassion of the Nashville Dog & Cat Rescue team, Miranda and her puppies now enjoy lives filled with love and happiness.
