At Kenya’s David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, a heartwarming scene unfolded as two elephant companions demonstrated the power of empathy and loyalty.
Maikreti, a former orphan reintroduced to the wild, suffered an injury after being struck by a poisoned arrow.
Despite her pain, she remembered the haven the orphanage had once provided and returned there for help.

Upon her return, the orphanage staff, her elephant, and human friends quickly assembled to give her the needed care.

Among them, a young male elephant named Kibo stood out for his concern and love for his injured friend.
Throughout her treatment, Kibo remained by Maikreti’s side, never leaving her, even when unconscious. He tenderly held her trunk and nudged her as if trying to rouse her.
Kibo’s compassionate actions toward Maikreti highlight the deep emotional connections elephants can forge but also serve as a reminder of the kindness inherent in animals.

Now on the road to recovery, Maikreti will remain at the orphanage until her wound fully recovers.
The David Sheldrick staff are grateful for the unwavering support of their elephant friends and will continue to provide a nurturing environment for these remarkable creatures.
