A heartwarming moment was captured on camera when a group of elephants came together to save a baby elephant from being trapped in a watering hole.

The young elephant found itself sinking knee-deep in mud and struggling to escape.

In the stunning images and videos, the baby elephant’s mother is seen trying unsuccessfully to pull her calf to safety.

An older female elephant then intervenes, kneeling and using her trunk to push the baby out of the muddy hole. The baby elephant was then able to escape the difficult situation.

Photographer Richard Tustin, who had been waiting for hours at the waterhole for a memorable moment, captured the touching scene.

He described hearing the mother’s distressed cries and the triumphant trumpeting once the baby was safe.

The 59-year-old and his wife Vanessa were visiting Nxai Pan Park in Botswana, where they experienced this extraordinary event.
